This collection was originally digitized in 2009 by Elizabeth J. Vincelette, a doctoral candidate in ODU's English Department, with metadata assistance by Teresa Statler-Keener. Dr. Vincelette completed the collection and finding aid as part of her doctoral dissertation, with a special focus on the letters written by women to provide insight into the professional lives of women authors during the period.
As a class project, students in Dr. Vincelette's English 495: Women in the Archives created a web site with information about "Independent Women." At this site you can read more about "The Independent."
Images and text were scanned on an Epson Expression 836XL using Paintshop 9.0 (WinXP operating system). Specifications: 600dpi, 24-bit color, tiff format. The collection was originally hosted on Omeka and then converted to CONTENTdm in 2013.
